Gentleman’s Agreement is de film die in 1948 niet alleen de prijs won voor ‘Beste film’, de meeste nominaties achter zijn naam had (8) én net als de kerstfilm Miracle on 34th Street (vreemd genoeg uitgebracht in mei 1947), de film was die het meeste Academy Awards won : drie.  De film kreeg immers ook de Prijs voor Beste regie (Elia Kazan) en Beste actrice in een bijrol (Celeste Holm).

Met vijf nominaties en slechts één keer winst stelde The Bishop’s Wife wat teleur.  Crossfire verging het nog slechter : vijf genomineerd en geen enkele keer aangekondigd als winnaar in een categorie.

Ook dat jaar werd een aantal Special Awards uitgereikt.  Italië kreeg er één voor de film Shoe-Shine terwijl ook James Baskett een Speciale prijs kreeg voor de hartverwarmende manier waarop hij als Nonkel Remus de vriend en verteller voor alle kinderen in de wereld te zien was in de Disney-film Song of the South.
