Holden McNeill (Ben Affleck) and Banky Edwards (Jason Lee) are the driving force behind a popular comic book. Business is going well, the two know each other for a long time now already and are very good friends. One day, Holden meets Alyssa, a beautiful blonde and he immediately falls in love with her. From that moment on, Alyssa is all he thinks off, and so his friendship with his pal and their mutual comic book work gets less important. But things do not go really the way Holden wants to : his approach for Alyssa doesn't really get what you call a positive response, his first date even leads to a 'cold shower' (but nice to see though...). Later on, Holden finds out that this is only one level where he doesn't know Alyssa at all...
Chasing Amy is directed by Kevin Smith ('clerks' - rather good movie - and 'mallrats' -extremely bad picture), Chasing Amy is his third movie of his "New Jersey triology".
Chasing Amy starts as a movie like we've seen hundreds like this before. Nothing special, not exciting at all, not to mention being funny... If you take out the videotape (or DVD) out of the player after 5 or 10 minutes or so, you make a big mistake (and that's why we are here, to warn you not to do that...).
The scene where Holden wants to hook the intriguing beautiful Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams) in a club, is extremely funny : be sure you have your handkerchief with you in case you start to cry seeing funny stuff, because you'll need it ! What is really extraordinary about 'Chasing Amy' is that one moment/scene is ex-tre-me-ly funny (laughing more than we did then is just not possible), for instance the scene where Holden is explaining his proposition to Banky and Alyssa to get all the problems out of the way, and is followed immediately by drama, which means anything but funny, even very, very realistic thanks to the good performances of Joey Lauren Adams.
And that, movielovers, is just one thing that makes this motion picture so special. You gotta see this !
